Meet the Dougallers: Erin Recoskie

Meet the Dougallers welcomes Erin Recoskie from our Eganville office! We sat down with Erin to find out a little bit more about what got her into insurance, what she likes doing in her spare time and more! Let’s meet Erin:

Place of Birth?

Erin grew up just off the Ottawa River in beautiful Pembroke, Ontario.

Hobbies?

It would make sense then that most of her hobbies involve being outdoors. Erin loves spending time on the water kayaking, fishing, and camping. She also plays softball in the summer time and finds herself at the hockey arena throughout the winter with her son Gavin and daughter Ava. When she is not outdoors Erin enjoys cooking and baking for her family.

Favourite food and why?

Oh boy, our mouth is watering… Erin loves steak. As she puts it, there is nothing better than a home cooked, locally raised beef steak grilled on the BBQ. I know what I am having for dinner tonight!

Favourite saying?

The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.

Favourite movie and why?

Armageddon, it was one I watched over and over and over again as a teenager. “Some body dial 9-1-1!”

One thing we should know about you?  

I am a proud mother to two amazing teenage children.

How did you get involved in insurance?

I previously worked in Building Supply and wanted a change where I would have more weekend time for my children. I always enjoyed Math and numbers so insurance seemed like an industry I may enjoy. I took on a role for a maternity leave as a receptionist in a local broker’s office, and through that first year I completed my RIBO license. From there I continued my experience and education completing both my Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation and am currently working towards completing my Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation as well.

What do you bring to the table to help your clients?

I like to take the time with clients and explain the coverage and make sure they understand what they are paying for and what coverage they have or should have so they can make an informed decision based on their needs. My background in Building Supply has also helped me with the property insurance side of things in that I am very familiar with the common supplies and products that are used in residential homes. I have been in the industry for 9 yrs now, so I have gained plenty of experience which helps me assist clients more efficiently and I look at every day as an opportunity to learn more.

What do you think is important in a relationship with a client?

Trust and Communication are two big aspects of the broker client relationship. These two things are imperative in building up a long lasting loyal relationship to keep a client long term and understand their insurance needs to ensure they are covered properly.

Favourite sports team?

Calgary Flames! They are bringing the Stanley Cup home before the Toronto Maple Leafs for sure.

Favourite Celebrity?

Adam Sandler, I mean how can you not love the guy?
